International Defence Contractor Group Head Office in Central London

Following a rigorous tender process, Ashlar Projects were chosen to design and fit-out the Group Head Office for a UK based International Defence Company in Central London.

The office space, based on one floor, would primarily be used as an agile meeting place for senior executives as well as for presenting and entertaining international clients. The Reception area was a key space to receive visitors providing a stylish aesthetic with the wow factor without being overtly ostentatious. Visiting clients and executives are able to use gender neutral washroom facilities and then relax in the business lounge to catch up on emails/phone calls or prepare for meetings privately in noise attenuated meeting booths or open plan project/meeting tables.

The secure office space had to facilitate multiple conference rooms that could also act as an office for privacy when needed. All conference rooms were fitted with state-of-the-art Video Conferencing and room booking systems. The brief also required a large open plan space for staff to hot-desk, book team meetings & make private phone calls.

To accommodate the clients wishes we positioned the reception centrally to the lifts with a standalone geometric back-lit wall sitting behind a clean monochrome angular desk. Textures & patterns were used to cleverly emit class, style and importance.

Using the brand colours from their secondary palette & introducing elements of the clients’ business services, feature walls were created with staggered downlighting and back-lit geometric shapes were mounted to the ceiling. Furniture was specified to provide a home from home feel whilst remaining professional to enable travelling executives to work comfortably either in private or in a collaborative or team based fashion.

As well as creating a smart working environment a relaxing coffee lounge was also added that provided comfortable, contemporary seating partially zoned off with wooden fins spanning the ceiling & flowing vertically down to the floor.

Zoning was key to the design and various flooring detail was used to facilitate this, incorporating a graduating herringbone pattern carpet within the conference rooms and a dynamic trapezium luxury vinyl tile as a feature floor in the main office area.

The boardroom was also a very important element in the design, being a key client-facing area. Inset in the centre of the room sits a bespoke, elegant boardroom table in a beautiful Ebony finish with a subtle sparkle flecked solid surface in the centre. The lighting above the table was suspended from a drop bulkhead with recessed ceiling height mood lighting and was formed with five triangle shapes suspended at different angles with the backdrop being a textured black wallpaper. The Ebony veneer finish was also used on the boardroom credenzas so the element of class and finish flows through the boardroom and by association the brand.
