The canteen area was in need of a full makeover; it was tired, outdated and uninviting. The objective was to create an environment that felt completely separate from the office and encouraged staff to want to come back to the workplace.
The thought behind this design was to find a place where people felt happy and far detached from their day-to-day working environment. This sparked the idea of a Mediterranean theme, incorporating a feel of bright sunshine, grapevines and cobbled courtyards with bustling cafes and tavernas.
We used flooring that gave a natural appeal of beach stones and pebbles, with a carpet tile for the softer seating area that looked like old cobbles entwined with moss. Zoning the areas to create a more intimate feel was key to creating that Mediterranean feel. We incorporated an overhead pergola which felt like a veranda looking out to the olive garden. Elevated corners of the space were enveloped with wooden slats, styled with dining booths, poseur height tables and a wood effect floor to feel like a decked terrace. Large halo pendants flooded the space with light in a way to mimic the sunshine, creating an uplifting mood.
Vibrant colours, Mediterranean architecture and a taste of bright sunshine were all used as inspiration for the design; bright coloured fabrics, Majorca-themed wallpaper, large olive trees and marble effect finishes to name a few elements used to create the look and feel.
